April 2009 - Did you know that former pop superstar Michael Jackson used more than one color of Swarovski crystal-covered glove in his gallery of hand costumes? We didn't either. But there they are -- in a photograph right out of the auction catalog. Mr Jackson's possessions from his costumes to his awards to his games and jewelry are being sold at auction to assist in the settlement of his financial debts. Proceeds from the auction are expected to result in between $10 million and $20 million.
Mr Jackson will liquidate approximately 2,000 of his personal possessions in a public auction in April 2009. He has also recently announced a series of 10 concerts to be held in London in July 2009. Yes, you can own a piece of the King of Pop. Wanna glove, wanna jacket? How about a foosball game?
While plans for the auction were proceeding smoothly and the Jackson camp was cooperating fully with the sale, with less than one month to go before the commencement of the auction, Mr Jackson filed a lawsuit to stop the sale. But as the sale grows closer, there is less and less noise coming from the King of Pop. He seems to have settled down and will let the auction of his former possessions proceed. Preparing for his upcoming concerts in London in the summer of 2009 must be enough distraction after all. Update April 15 - This sale has now been cancelled and the possessions will revert to Michael Jackson.
